Culture, history, romance. Italy has the whole lot and it’s out there just waiting for you to photograph. We chose Venice for the Fly ‘n’ Shoot photography break because we know from experience the many magnificent opportunities for beautiful captures. But we want to give photographers a really full-flavoured experience of northern Italy so we’ve added some other locations that we know very well – two beautiful cities and a small, picturesque town. So, prepare for plenty of camera action!
And to pique your photographic appetite, there will be an experienced model and a qualified MUA/wardrobe stylist. She knows the areas we are visiting and is, even now, planning some great outfits and styling to suit each location. She will ensure that you achieve several different stunning looks for your portfolio.
If you like the idea but you are relatively new to photography, you will benefit immeasurably by being out and about with our award-winning photography trainer. It’s surprising how much you can learn over 3 days of concentrated photography. But wherever you are on your photographic journey of discovery, we give you the level of support and tuition appropriate to your existing skill set. If you are just along for the photographic ride, be our guest!
The 4 locations
Venice is like nowhere else on the planet. The architecture, the colours, the people and, of course, the amazing network of waterways. It is a heady mix and perfect for photography – be it candid street photography or cityscapes. Because it’s so special, we make two trips to Venice – one will be a dawn start to catch the sunrise and the early morning bustle of vendors as they roll back the shutters to greet another busy day. The second visit will be with our fully-styled model – fashion will be our main focus here but you will be free to shoot other styles. Our visit will extend into the sunset hour to catch the drama of day turning to night when the dynamic of the place changes once again.
This beautiful city will be base camp for the three full days of shooting. Our 3-star family-run hotel is characteristically Italian, our host very charming and extremely accommodating. The old streets and waterways are reminiscent of Venice on a small scale but, luckily for us, Padova has so far not been exposed to mass tourism. There is a busy market in the central area and a beautiful park with fountains; a university; an observatory; frescos in the 14th century chapel and a glorious domed basilica – it is well worth exploring for architectural shots and street photography. Padova is also a lovely location for fashion and portraiture with our elegant model.
The ancient walled city of Cittadella: different again from the other locations but equally compelling from a photographic perspective. Expect quaint, cobbled streets, arcaded walkways, distressed wooden facades and wrought iron gates. Imagine imposing columns and the central square juxtaposed with the coloured stucco houses lining the side streets and the tempting shops, bars and cafés. Here, you have locations that work for a number of different photographic genres and provide perfect backdrops against which to shoot your model.
Piazzola Sul Brenta
The smallest of our locations, this is where the Villa Contarini, a Patrician Baroque-style palace in the centre of the town, is situated. The history is as interesting as the architecture stretching back to the days when a castle occupied the site. Across the road are a few shops, cafés and boutiques and above this a sweeping gallery of rustic dwellings and a lovely backdrop for some fashion and lifestyle photography.
